What should I charge — or pay — for custom work?
Compare custom farming rates from 8 Midwest and Plains states side by side, straight from the extension surveys, then price out your own job.
Survey averages, not quotes. These are averages of what people reported in extension surveys. Use them as a starting point for a conversation, not as a price.

Rates by state
Not covered yet: South Dakota, Michigan — why. Minnesota and Illinois don’t publish a custom rate survey, so their pages show Iowa’s — details.
How this works
Real survey numbers
Every rate links to the original extension report and page. Nothing is estimated: if a number was unreadable or not published, it is left out and logged.
Same job, side by side
Surveys name jobs differently. Comparable jobs are grouped (for example “Corn combining” and “Combine Only – Corn”) and the original wording is always shown.
Price your job
Pick a state average or type your own rate, enter acres, hours or bushels, and add an optional diesel surcharge.
Flagged for checking
Low response counts, outliers and source typos are flagged. See the data review page.
